AAL FORUM 2011 – Lecce, Italy 26-28 September
New keynote speakers confirmed: Misha Pavel, Alain Franco and Alex Kalache
Brussels, 16 August 2011 – New keynote speakers confirmed their attendance in Lecce for the third edition of the AAL Forum. Mr Misha Pavel, (first to the left) Program Director at the Virginia based (USA) National Science Foundation in charge of a program called Smart Health and Wellbeing will intervene on the second plenary session (27 September) to explain the “supporting innovations in the United States in the field of AAL; Mr Alain Franco (second to the left) President of the International Society for Gerontechnology since 2008, Secretary General and Vice-President of the International Association for Gerontology and Geriatrics and President of the new French National Agency for health, autonomy and technology in the Community (CNRSDA) based in Nice is scheduled to address the audience of the AAL Forum on Wednesday 28 September on “Functioning - a key for seniors”; Mr Alex Kalache, senior policy adviser and former Director of the World Health Organization, who will present on Wednesday 28 September an international perspective on the “Needs of social innovations and AAL solutions”.
Older Adults with chronic conditions
Five hot topics will be dealt during the Forum, and they will embody the parallel tracks of the Forum. Among them (the others will be presented in the upcoming press launch), the Track A - Wellbeing & care of older adults with chronic conditions, where several types of solutions will be presented and relevant aspects regarding end user involvement and ethical issues will be discussed. This track will be divided into five sessions: 1) The role and needs of informal carers in AAL; 2) Physical and mental wellbeing and care for older adults with cognitive impairments and their relatives and carers; 3) AAL solutions for self-management of chronic conditions by older adults; 4) ’Pecha Kucha’: networking for learning and partnership; 5) Topical gaps and issues for future development in AAL.
Laboursaving effects and transparent judgement
Some side events will enrich the programme of the Forum and will engage the participants to help interaction and learning phases. The workshop on Web based tools to identify laboursaving effects of care innovations that will introduce the attendees in how to make an assessment of laboursaving effects and a costs/benefit analysis and how to use the web based tool in making quick and transparent judgments. The AALoA Lecce Declaration will be presented and addressed to the Steering Group of EIP-AHA – the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing to call for a set of key measures for market breakthrough of AAL
